Feeding Blends of Fatty Acids–Palmitic & Oleic – Dr. Adam Lock

September 17, 2019

In this short video, Dr. Adam Lock from Michigan State reviews his latest research on how cows respond differently to combinations of specific fatty acids, particularly Palmitic & Oleic Acid.

What You Will Learn

  • We should consider the possible effects of specific fatty acids on the rumen (BH/MFD/NDFd), in the small intestine (DMI/digestibility), in the mammary gland (increased incorporation/substitution), and energy partitioning between tissues.
  • Use of supplemental fat in the fresh pen should be considered, as new research shows fatty acids supplementation benefits fresh cow performance.
  • The profile of fatty acid supplementation is key in determining production responses and energy partitioning.
